The AmScope T660B compound Siedentopf trinocular microscope has interchangeable pairs of 10x super-widefield and 20x super-widefield eyepieces, a reverse-mounted nosepiece with four DIN achromatic semi-plan objectives, Brightfield halogen illumination, and a double-layer mechanical stage with a stage stop to protect slides and objectives from damage. The trinocular head has a vertical camera mount and a Siedentopf binocular mount with interchangeable pairs of WH10x and WH20x eyepieces, 55 to 75mm Siedentopf interpupillary adjustment, a fixed 30-degree vertical inclination to reduce eye and neck strain, and a 360-degree rotation capability to provide a more comprehensive view and enable sharing. Dioptric adjustment accommodates individual eye-strength differences. The vertical trinocular port accepts a camera with a 23mm or C-Mount adapter (camera sold separately). The mechanical tube length is 6-5/16″ (160mm). The reverse-mounted revolving nosepiece has 4x, 10x, 40xS, and 100xS (oil) DIN achromatic semi-plan objectives that provide color correction of magnified images. The 40xS objective is spring loaded to prevent slide damage when focusing. The 100xS spring-loaded oil-immersion objective uses oil between the specimen and the objective lens to provide increased resolution over a standard objective. Semi-plan objectives provide improved focus over the central 80 percent of the viewing field. A compound microscope is used for inspection and dissection of specimens when two-dimensional images are desired.

The microscope has Brightfield illumination. Brightfield (BF) illumination allows the specimen to absorb light, resulting in a dark image on a light background. Halogen illumination provides bright light in a concentrated path, and a Kohler condenser focuses and centers the light path using two iris diaphragms, providing optimum contrast and resolution. The graduated double-layer mechanical stage, with 1mm stage divisions, locks the slide into place and provides precise slide manipulation along the X- and Y-axis to allow coordinates to be recorded, enabling the viewer to return to a specific location on the slide. A stage stop prevents the stage or specimen from coming into contact with the objectives. The stage is 7.1 x 5.9 inches (180 x 150mm) and a traveling range of 2-3/4 x 2 inches (70 x 50mm). Graduated coaxial coarse and fine focus has a focusing range of 1-3/16″ (30mm) and fine-focus divisions of 0.002mm (0.0000787″) that enable measurements to be taken. Focus knob tension control prevents the stage from drifting out of focus. The cast-alloy enamel-coated body is durable and resistant to stains and corrosion.

American Educational 7-1358 Basic Monocular Compound Microscope, WF10x Eyepiece, 40x-400x Magnification, Brightfield, Tungsten Illumination, Plain Stage, 110V or Battery-Powered Review

American Educational 7-1358 Basic Monocular Compound Microscope, WF10x Eyepiece, 40x-400x Magnification, Brightfield, Tungsten Illumination, Plain Stage, 110V or Battery-Powered

The American Educational 7-1358 Basic Monocular Compound Microscope has a locked-in 10x widefield eyepiece, a forward-facing nosepiece with three objectives, tungsten illumination, nested coarse and fine focus, and a plain stage with stage clips. The monocular viewing head has a fixed inclination to reduce eye and neck strain, and rotation capability to enable sharing. A forward-facing nosepiece eases changing objectives. A basic compound microscope is used in classroom, home school, and hobbyist settings for inspection and dissection of specimens when two-dimensional images are desired.

The microscope has lower (diascopic) brightfield illumination that transmits light up through the specimen for enhanced visibility of translucent and transparent objects. Brightfield (BF) illumination allows the specimen to absorb light, resulting in a dark image on a light background. The tungsten light source provides bright light, and operates on AC power, or on a rechargeable battery for cordless operation. A rheostat controls the amount of light emanating from the lamp. The plain stage has an opening for light transmission, and stage clips to secure the slide or specimen in place while viewing. Coaxial coarse and fine focus knobs are nested to speed focusing for left-and right-handed viewers, and a slip clutch prevents excess pressure from damaging the slides or objectives. The frame is made of cast aluminum. The built-in handle allows the microscope to be safely transported.

Microscopes can control magnification through a fixed focus, or through a range of adjustments. They can also utilize LED, fluorescent, and mirror light sources to help control viewing capabilities. Microscopes are widely used in education, lab research, biology, metallurgy, engineering, chemistry, manufacturing, and in the medical, forensic science, and veterinary industries.

  • Stereo microscope for home or classroom use enables students and hobbyists to inspect biological specimens, rocks, stamps, jewelry, and large specimens that require handing or manipulation
  • Binocular viewing head with pair of 10x widefield eyepieces, adjustable interpupillary distance, and 45-degree inclination to simplify viewing for young users
  • Interchangeable 1x and 3x objectives provide low magnification and longer focal length for inspecting large-scale specimens
  • Upper and lower illumination has 10W halogen light source to illuminate specimens
  • Frosted plate allows light to pass through from below with transparent specimens, reversible black and white stage plate provides contrast with light- and dark-colored specimens, and stage clips secure the specimen during viewing

The AmScope SE305-A stereo microscope has a pair of 10x18mm widefield eyepieces, 1x and 3x objectives, upper and lower halogen lighting, two stage plates, and an arm stand. The binocular viewing head has an interpupillary range of 55 to 75mm and a 45-degree inclination to ease viewing for young users. The WF10x18mm eyepieces combine with the 1x and 3x objectives to provide 10x and 30x magnification, and a longer working distance for inspecting large-scale specimens that require handling or repair. The optical glass lenses provide sharp images, and are fully coated to ensure high-resolution images. Dioptric adjustment accommodates individual eye-strength differences, and eye guards ensure comfortable viewing. A stereo microscope, sometimes called an inspection or dissection microscope, has low magnification and a long working distance that enables users to manipulate the object being inspected.

The microscope has upper (episcopic) illumination that reflects light off the specimen for enhanced visibility of opaque specimens, and lower (diascopic) illumination that transmits light up through the specimen for enhanced visibility of translucent and transparent objects. The 10W halogen light source provides bright light in a concentrated path. Bilateral coarse focus eases use for left- and right-handed users. The stage has a frosted stage plate for use with lower (transmitted) lighting, and a reversible black and white stage plate that provides contrast with light- and dark-colored specimens when used with upper (reflected) lighting. Stage clips that secure the specimen during viewing. The microscope has a 2-1/8″ (53mm) working distance. All metal construction is durable and stain-resistant.

Microscopes are instruments used to enhance the resolution of an object or image. Types include compound, stereo, or digital. Compound microscopes use a compound optical system with an objective lens and an eyepiece. Stereo microscopes show object depth in a three-dimensional image. Digital microscopes are used to display an image on a monitor, rather than looking through a lens. Microscopes can have monocular (one), binocular (two), or trinocular (three) eyepieces, with varying magnification abilities. Magnification ability refers to the size of an image. Resolution, also known as resolvant power, refers to the clarity of the image. The interaction between field of view (FOV), numerical aperture (NA), and working distance (WD) determines resolution.
